In the olden days, it was very important to achieving new " accuracy records " or on the other hand to keep the exact time over a long period used to be a very important factor in those days. Furthermore a technical ridge walk which only the best systems were able to achieve. The accuracy of keeping the time was demanded of the scientists. They needed a very accurate and reliable "Keeper of time". Keeper, because the exact time was only to be determined by measuring the passage of the stars and reference the time, scientists had to work with their eyes covered between these measurings.
Only with the aid of their PDC (precision-domestic-clock) they were able to overcome the blind flight in between measurings.
Apart from its superficial target, measuring the exact time, the Strasser escapement is beautiful to look at. Even after looking at it for a while, it will not give its secret away to everyone.
